Cupping

Cupping

The type of cupping performed by massage therapists at Complete Therapy is Dry Cupping and used to treat musculoskeletal conditions. This technique can be performed on its own or combined with other massage therapy techniques. Cupping involves the use of plastic or silicone cups to apply suction to the skin causing the underlying tissue to be drawn up. This suction creates negative pressure in the tissue. This negative pressure creates a pulling action which allows for the separation of fused or adhered tissue. Multiple cups can be applied at the same time to different painful and stiff areas and left in place for a few minutes. Suction cups can also be moved along tight or sore soft tissues to release the affected areas.
Benefits may include:
  • Decreased pain and inflammation
  • Softening of soft tissue restrictions
  • Increased range of motion
